Ban on the poisonous pesticides to go ahead, says minister

News

The ban on toxic agricultural pesticides paraquat and chlorpyrifos will be enforced as scheduled on June 1, Industry Minister Suriya Juangroongruangkit said on Thursday (April 30).

The use of the third chemical, glyphosate, will be limited from May 23 in line with the National Hazardous Substances Committee.

Several people and agencies have recently called on the government to put the ban off until December 31, as it may have a negative impact on the trade of agricultural products.

However, Public Health Minister Anutin Charnvirakul disagreed saying that people’s health is more important.
